Red Roses Celebrate at May Event

Ramblin' Red Roses celebrated their sixth birthday on May 7, 2009 with a salad buffet at Paula's home. They had a white elephant exchange after lunch and then enjoyed cake and coffee. Red Velvet and German Chocolate cakes were served by the hostesses Paula and Debbie.

Hi Red Hatters,

Debbie and I want to remind you of our May 7th Ramblin' Red Roses Anniversary Luncheon at 11:30 AM at my home. Each of you is asked to bring a salad to share, your $5.00 annual dues and a White Elephant gift for the exchange. The White Elephant gift is to be wrapped in some kind of wrapping paper (or comics; it doesn't matter) and then the gift is to be placed in a brown paper bag and stapled shut so no one will see which gift you brought. If you have any questions about the White Elephant gift, call me or Debbie.

Movie to See

Movie rec commended by Red Hat Society:
We would like to draw your attention to the new movie from Story Island Entertainment, "Is Anybody There," a story both humorous and thought-provoking. This quiet drama centers on Edward, a young boy growing up in a retirement home run by his parents. Edward meets the cantankerous Clarence, a former magician, who lives with regrets and is trying to make amends for his mistakes. This unlikely pair journey into the pain and joy that come with remembrance and forgetting, and Edward learns how to reach out to those around him. Though the entire cast performs well, the story really belongs to veteran actor Michael Caine, who delivers a performance that is both moving and versatile. Bring a box of Kleenex, but be prepared to leave with a smile on your face!

Must See Kimono Exhibit

This exhibit is in its last week at the Canton Museum of Art. I recommend that everyone see it and I know many of you have.

"Kimono As Art: The Landscapes of Itchiku Kubota"

"Internationally acclaimed artist Itchiku Kubota used silk kimono as his canvas. Kubota had a lifelong fascination with the subtle changes of color and the quality of light achieved through skillful dyeing techniques combined with the reflective properties of silk. He often used nature as the inspiration for his work.

This stunning exhibition of forty over-sized landscape kimono is visiting the United States for only the second time, since its 1995 exhibition at the Smithsonian in Washington, DC.

Itchiku Kubota’s dream was to live to be 100, the time it would take for him to complete a series of 75 kimono that would hang side-by-side, forming a monumental tapestry of the four seasons called Symphony of Light. He completed 30 of these pieces, Autumn and Winter, before his death on April 26, 2003."
